Identifying your travel style is so important and definitely not something you necessarily think about before going on a trip. I know I didn’t. From money to food to accommodations and everything in between can determine what type of traveler you are. Here I define My Personal Travel Style.
First of all, I’ve talked a little bit of my travel style in the post: How to Identify your Travel Style while helping you try to determine yours. But, here you’ll learn more about me and my travel style!
When I went on my first big trip and first international trip to Paris, France I had no expectations. I knew nothing. My only plan was to show up and at least see the Eiffel Tower. I didn’t specifically plan anything else. I didn’t have any must visit locations on the weekends. All I cared about was going on my first international trip!
Now, times have definitely changed. After years of traveling to different locations with different people I now know what I want and what my personal travel style is and isn’t.

My This or That Travel Styles!
Above are my answers to the Travel Style This or That’s – General, Food, Activities, and Accommodation Editions. For the most part I think they nearly cover it, but I’d have to say it also can vary by location for me.
Travel Style - General
When it comes to the General Travel Style topics this is where I am in the middle for most of the topics depending on other circumstances. For example, I chose airport travel, but I LOVE road trips nearly just as much. I might feel a little different if cool road trips were more attainable from my home in Louisiana.
I typically am always a budget traveler. I never intend to spend a lot of money for no reason, but I will definitely splurge on things I want to! If anything I’d probably always choose summer travel over winter travel. Unless it’s a winter location of course. I typically would rather abroad travel, but I have equal aspirations to see everything there is in the United States as well!
Lastly, I’d choose walking over car service because there’s so many things you can stumble across while walking. But, if I want to get to a specific location I might consider a taxi. And then, I am very much a planner. My first trip to Paris I was definitely an improviser, but now looking back I realize other things I would’ve like to see or even knowing any tips or secrets of places that I did visit that I would’ve known if I looked into it further beforehand.
Travel Style - Food
When I’m traveling, food is not something I care about that much. I’m more of a street food, local food eater. I absolutely hate sitting down at restaurants 90% of the time while traveling and I enjoy trying other cultures foods even though I’m a tad bit of a picky eater.
I’m more of an on the go, food is fuel person, but I don’t mind sitting down restaurants every now and then. I also enjoy cocktails, typically wine!
Travel Style - Activities
I am definitely an explorer when it comes to traveling! I love to explore, adventure, and walk around. When it comes to the sites I obviously want to see the tourist spots, but I do like seeing the hidden gems and local spots as well.
I love adrenaline type activities! In Switzerland I went canyoning and paragliding and it was one of my most memorable trips! I enjoy going on day trips to close by locations versus doing excursion type things. But, I’d say I’m really down for anything while traveling – mainly adventure, but I enjoy laying on the beach too!
Travel Style - Accommodation
Similar to food, accommodations aren’t something I care about too much while traveling. Safety is always key though! But, I typically go with whatever is the best deal for money and location. I don’t usually mind if it’s an AirBnB, hotel, or hostel, but I usually book through Hotels.com to get the best deal.
I am a non-inclusive type of person for the reason that I don’t plan on staying at wherever I’m staying. I am a semi-early riser and then I’m out of there ready to explore.
From years of traveling I definitely can say I now know my personal travel style compared to my first trip. This allows me to make the trips I go on the best and most fulfilling for myself! How would you define your travel style? Leave it in the comments below!
